Fear

I am laying in my bed after closing both my bathroom and closet doors because something in my head is still afraid of what could be waiting in the dark rooms. Fear makes me do it. Fear of something I created in my head. And this got me thinking…

When we fear something in our lives, whether it’s speaking in front of a group, making a decision, afraid of that shark that’s going to get you in the water, or the ghost in my closet… Whatever it is in our lives that we fear, all comes from our head. Sure there might be some reasonable facts or past experiences that can instil this fear in our minds, but it’s still our minds that ultimately creates it. When someone is afraid of going up on stage speaking to a crowd, all they see in their head is them screwing up their speech, stuttering and slurring words, sweating and just being awkward. When you create images in your head, your body now knows how to react to that certain situation you thought of. So more than likely when that person goes up on stage to give their speech, their visions will become a reality. Not good.

Instead of embracing fear, try to look beyond it. Pay no attention to it. Think about how it would feel to go up on stage and give the best speech anyone has seen. Imagine the confidence you can have. Imagine anything positive that can happen. Let your mind wander with positive energy and envision a confident you. Like for me… I need to walk into the dark room and smile because there is nothing in there but my 5-year-old mind. Fear can hold us back from anything it wants to. Maybe tomorrow try something that you are afraid to do, big or small, and just do it with confidence. Don’t be your own limiter. Allow success to come to you!

Now let’s hope these monsters  don’t get me..

Imagination is Key

“In whatever you’re doing, failure is an option… Fear is not.” – James Cameron

Watch this whole video. James Cameron talks about how he embraced his curiosity, not just as a young boy, but as an accomplished film maker.

When we let ourselves become curious and let our imagination run wild, we are allowing our minds to create things that our bodies can’t. The best part about it is, if your imagination creates something that you want and you believe in, your mind will lead your body to the desired outcome. This concept is something that we as humans don’t always grasp, we often forget about it. But it is important to realize our potential and how our minds work for our bodies. Allow your mind to relax every once in a while, let it dream. Let it discover. Let it create the things you want most. Experience the interactive visual you get when your mind works. These are the things that drive us to do what we know and love. They also drive us to do things no body knows. Invent. Create. With your mind and your passion, reality is what you make it. Things that your believe are real or that will happen in your life, will become a reality. Allow yourself to be consumed by your dreams and passions. You can do whatever it is you set your mind to. Don’t hold your self back. With these thoughts in mind, listening to what James Cameron said at the end of his presentation, “failure is an option, fear is not” can allow our minds to reach the endless possibilities of the human imagination. You could fail, but don’t that steer you off course. Learn to embrace failure, and put fear aside. Let go of your fear and realize your potential. Imagine.

“It’s not about breaking down borders, it’s about pushing off of them.”

video shared from TED.com

This is an amazing video of  lady with heavy borders and obstacles in her path to success. She met those obstacles head on and overcame them to the fullest degree. There are two very important things to take away from this video. One is to realize there are a lot of people out there who go through a lot worse things than you do, and still make it to the places they want to go. It amazes me how often we complain or feel bad for ourselves when times get tough and we think we have it hard. And then we give up. We need to watch videos like this. The second thing to take away from this is that you shouldn’t have to go through what she went through to realize your potential in life! Bless her heart for doing all she has done, but people, learn from her leadership and realize we are all human. We can all do the things we desire. Don’t wait around for something to come up. Make your opportunities in life. Create your own luck. And most of all, notice the people around us that go through, and have gone through things we will never even taste in life. They are our true heroes. Don’t give up. “It’s not about breaking down borders, it’s about pushing off of them.”

Grasp Your Confidence

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t – you are right.”  -Henry Ford

Think about the following questions. Why doesn’t everyone believe in themselves fully? Why is it so common for people to shy away from what they truly want and believe because they don’t have this magic sense of “confidence?” Well here is my answer. Read the quote above again…

Taking what Henry Ford says, we can assume that the people who think they “can’t” (can’t is the worst word in the english language, by the way) do something, don’t necessarily have little confidence, but they lack in the courageous portion of life. Why aren’t they courageous? Who knows, being courageous is something less common than just having self-confidence. But, here’s the kicker, being courageous and having confidence go hand in hand. So… If the same person who thinks they can’t do something because they aren’t courageous enough, they can focus their energy into their confidence, and they will exceed their expectations on what they can do. Well what if they have no confidence? In my opinion there is no reason to have no self-confidence. Having confidence is this meaningless word that we use to separate people from one another. I say meaningless because everyone has the confidence inside them, all of the time. How? Because every single one of us (which is now 7,055,222,832 people) is different. And just because we are different, people lose their grasp on their personal confidence. Sadly this is because of our world and society, we all have this vision of some perfect dude/dudet and what he/she looks like. This is crap. We need to open up our minds to everyone in this world. We need to be thankful that everyone is different and at least just e okay with it. And for the people who have lost a strong hold on their confidence… Get back in there and get a grip. People will look up to you for being yourself, and being something that is incredible to them. Being someone else, or being forever shy is not the way to do this. Show your confidence, live with your confidence and BELIEVE in yourself. It’s not that people don’t have confidence, it’s just that they have lost their grasp on it. Example? Here you go… When we were all little toddlers and didn’t think before doing anything (sometimes this was cute, sometimes this was worth a timeout,)  we had all of the confidence in the world. Because we didn’t think about what others were thinking, we didn’t know any better! Society hadn’t brainwashed our narrow minds yet. Open up your mind, whether you’re confident or not, and see that we are all different. But be enthralled by the fact that we are all different. Everyone has confidence, but only some choose to keep their grasp on it through the process of growing up. Being confident can open up more roads than you can imagine. You will light up rooms when you walk in. The right people will pay attention to you. You will have more fun in everything. You will be more honest and upfront. But most of all, you will find that your cheeks will be very sore. Smiling will be something you’ll do everyday.

Be confident, be true to yourself, and let people see and experience who you are. Don’t be bothered by the people who think differently about you or try to bring you down. They just aren’t going to be on your path to success. Stay on your true path and never let go. I’ll leave you with a quote from a song to think about.

“Follow your heart to the water
Fill your pockets with stone
Throw your arms around me
Never let me go” – Parkway Drive

This quote is saying how you need to put your all, your life, your mind, your soul, into the things you love. And never let them go if they are your true passions. With pockets full of stone, you will sink in to the water of your passion and risk everything. Do it. Be confident. Achieve it all.

“We need to redefine leadership”

video shared from TED.com

If you’ve never explored around on TED.com and looked through the abundance of amazing videos they have, please do it today. This is one is a short video that has a lot of meaning! Why is it that people view leadership as “changing the world?” As Drew tells his story, we understand that leadership isn’t always that big of a thing. It’s about being confident, courageous, honest and true to yourself. Being a leader can be as simple as being a person that one other person looks up to. Watch this video and go to the website… Lots to watch!
